Lake Tahoe Feedback: From SF yu can just drive up HWY 50 to Lake Tahoe. That will take about 3 hours (depends on the weather of course). I would choose Lake Tahoe because I like skiing. If you don’t like skiing there is still the beautiful lake. Go to Yosemite in the Fall.
Lake Tahoe Feedback: pick yosemite. we have wanted to go there for years. it would be a great road trip. you can get rooms out that way at around $90.00 a night.
Lake Tahoe Feedback: They will both be cold, Tahoe will be a bit easier to get to depending on snow & conditions on 120.
Tahoe draws skiers so you may want reservations if the snow is happening. Yosemite will be far less crowded and you could do snowshoeing there. Both are beautiful.

There is a Marriott right at the entrance to the gondola. It couldn’t be any more convenient.
As far as Lake Tahoe vs Yosemite: Lake Tahoe has casinos — case closed.

Lake Tahoe Feedback: My family goes to Tahoe in January. They love skiing and snowboarding though. And then there’s the nightlife and gambling. I can’t tell you the avg. price because they get a huge suite for everyone at $800 a night.
Wherever you choose, pack chains for your tires!
Lake Tahoe Feedback: I’ve been to Lake Tahoe, it’s absolutely gorgeous in the winter, Yosemite would be good in the summer, of course Lake Tahoe would be too! oh! lol If you like skiing Lake Tahoe would be great, there may be more things to go and do in Tahoe, if you like winter sports, bundle up it’ll be chilly. It’s a real neat atmosphere, different than anything else. You can go on line and look at prices, just go to Lake Tahoe Ski Resort on your search engine and find all that you need.
Lake Tahoe Feedback: Lake tahoe about 40-100 miles of sacramento beasutiful Skiing and Snowboardin and breathtaking sites Also a great place to relax Yosemite is just boring it has good sites but it can get pretty bad wheather and it has bears not to scare you or anything. The best place to go in Lake Tahoe is Squaw Valley dont know about hotels though sorry

I think I would decide on weather/road conditions and what you want to do.
Yosemite is just gorgeous around the year and winter puts a wonderful calmness to the valley. But is can be pretty hard to get their, so you should rather try to drive up 140 rather then 120, if there is already a lot of snow. If you can afford it stay at the Awahney hotel or the Wawona lodge. And dont get yourself scared by bears, these are hybernating mamals, so they should sleep.
Tahoe is a bit more crowded in winter, as you will have all the skiers around. I personally would prefer Squaw Valley, for skiing and the resort. I think there are also some hot springs around north lake tahoe, maybe that would be a great place to go with a girlfriend.

Lake Tahoe Feedback: By car, they’re both roughly 4 hours from San Francisco. In January, expect lots of snow coming up to the mountains from the City.
If it’s really coming down, the California state police (CHP) will close the highways…so do check the weather report before finalizing your plans.
Lake Tahoe has casinos and glamorous ski resorts. It is generally more commercialized than than Yosemite, which is a National Park and quieter.
Lake Tahoe has some cheap hotels (especially, if you’re willing to stay in a casino), and some very expensive ones (ski resorts, lake views).
If you just want to ski and gamble, go to Lake Tahoe. If you’re interested in real ‘back-to-nature’ activities like camping or hiking, go to Yosemite.
The price of Yosemite’s hotels depends on whether you stay inside or outside the park boundaries. Inside, it’s glorious (you can literally have a room with views of a huge waterfall outside the window), but expensive. Outside, in the nearby towns like Merced, it’s more basic, but highly affordable.
Lake Tahoe Feedback: It really depends on your interests. Lake Tahoe is actually pretty busy in the winter. There are a ton of ski-resorts and the casino attractions on the Nevada side. But since it has those things, you’re going to find crowds of people and no bargains booking a hotel. Yosemite is gorgeous in the winter. Few people to contend with at all. Of course, you won’t be able to hike around much, unless you have snow shoes or x country skis. There is usually ice skating in Curry Village (valley floor). Lodging in near Oakhurst would be a good idea and a bargain that time of year. The roads may or may not be plowed, so access to some aread may be limited. Extreme weather could keep you from getting there at all. Make sure you have chains or snow tires. My vote would be Yosemite. I hate crowds, I like bargains, and its the ultimate romantic get-away. And forget what the other gal said about the bears. Bears do not hibernate in California.
Lake Tahoe Feedback: tahoe is better—the roads can be difficult to both depending on the weather–but the roads are far better to tahoe and more to do in winter.
