best views from what I remember….San Simeon, Monterrey, and Carmel….the whole drive is nice, kind of scary unless you are going north :)
Coast side is so beautiful you can get distracted…

  15. ShingleCreek on August 15th, 2010 1:20 am

Not yet. Actually later the same day I filmed this, I drove the entire Oregon coast. But I didn’t film it because the light was poor.

I want to do a CA-1 video, but I’m not sure where the best scenery is….guess I’ll have to check out Google Maps street view to decide.

gorgeous drive…have done it a few times, Nevada/Cali has some of the best views….do you have one for the coast Highway 1??

  17. jrosick on August 15th, 2010 1:53 am

I just drive this route last week (February 2010). It really gets your heart pumping in the winter!

  18. mrsnavo on August 15th, 2010 2:15 am

  19. missalc13 on August 15th, 2010 3:09 am

    thats good.

  20. seth4404 on August 15th, 2010 3:27 am

@missalc13 Its usually closed in the winter due to slide danger.

  21. hikinginhawaii on August 15th, 2010 3:33 am

Great video. I took this road one winter and was scared to death at the 180 degree spot. We had just slid off the road, were almost home, and then came to that 180 turn. No guardrails. That was the most afraid I’ve ever been.

  22. ShingleCreek on August 15th, 2010 4:17 am

I know. I hate the music too. Had to do an audio swap, and they didn’t have much to choose from – so I just gave up.

  23. dsgeron on August 15th, 2010 4:48 am

Nice video… but the music is a crap.

  24. missalc13 on August 15th, 2010 5:41 am

wouldnt want to drive on this road in the winter!

  25. TravelMate2006 on August 15th, 2010 6:19 am

Lotsa trees. I remember driving this route in a Mitsubishi rental. Nice.

  26. JFrombaugh on August 15th, 2010 6:53 am

I used to live in Tahoe when I was little. My Mom always got real nervous when we came to the part with the 180-degree hairpin curves at 1:53-2:07.

  27. beebee890 on August 15th, 2010 6:57 am

cool i now sub 2 you

  28. Sistermadly99 on August 15th, 2010 7:25 am

Hee! I am from Pennsylvania and flew into Reno, rented a jeep and went to Lake Tahoe for vacation this past weekend. I watched this video a week or two before I went and the closer I got to Emerald Bay the more I thought about the twists and turns in this video and the more terrified I got! Hahah! I am happy to say I made it safe and sound though and am glad I made the drive because Emerald Bay left me speechless.

these windy mountain highways look a lot more fun when sped up like this, almost like a rollercoaster ride.

  32. Abacus330 on August 15th, 2010 9:57 am
